Bondar Hope Springs Eternal Blewitt Springs Grenache 2024 750ml
Bondar Wines was established in McLaren Vale by Andre and Selina Bondar, and Hope Springs Eternal is their project for elegant, age worthy wines drawn from the vineyards they consider the best sites in the region for each variety. Altitude is the thread running through the range: these blocks sit higher than the home Rayner vineyard, where cool nights and warm days stretch out the ripening season and preserve natural acidity.
For Grenache that means Blewitt Springs, and specifically the Trott Wilpena vineyard high in the district, planted in 1952 and dry grown on deep sand with a steeply east facing aspect. Old vines on sand are the classic recipe for perfumed McLaren Vale Grenache, and this is exactly that.
Expect a lifted nose of raspberry, red cherry and dried herbs, a palate that is medium bodied and silky rather than heavy, and fine, sandy tannins carrying a long, savoury finish. Serve it lightly chilled with roast lamb, charcuterie, tomato based pasta or grilled vegetables.
