The Premium Old Vines Chardonnay is one of the flagship whites from Bass Phillip, the cult Gippsland estate founded by Phillip Jones and now in the capable hands of Burgundian winemaker Jean-Marie Fourrier. 2021 marked Fourrier's first full vintage at the domaine, and the wine carries his signature precision alongside Bass Phillip's long-standing biodynamic and low-intervention ethos — vines have been organic since 1993 and biodynamic since 2002.
Quietly commanding, the wine opens with peach, lemon curd and sea spray before moving into nutty, melon-rind notes and fine oak spice. The palate is layered and poised, carrying persistent acidity, citrus, toast and ginger through a long, savoury finish. Naturally fermented with minimal pumping and filtration, it shows the signature Bass Phillip creamy texture.
Built to age gracefully for a decade or more. A benchmark cool-climate Victorian Chardonnay.
