Armand Heitz is a young Burgundian who built his estate quickly through a sharp eye for cool, high-elevation sites across the Côte de Beaune and the surrounding hillsides. The domaine farms biodynamically, vinifies with whole bunches and low intervention, and has gathered a small but enviable lineup of village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru parcels in just over a decade.
Hautes-Mourottes is one of the highest climats on the famed Corton hill, with stony limestone soils that produce structured, slow-maturing Pinot Noir of marked character. Heitz farms this Grand Cru parcel by hand, ferments with native yeasts and ages the wine in barrel with modest new oak, producing a Corton typical of the site rather than the winemaker.
The wine pours a classical, pale ruby red. Aromas of fresh cherry, raspberry, sweet spice and a delicate mentholated lift are layered with subtle vanilla and forest floor. The palate is graceful and refined, with bright acidity, fine-grained tannins and the slightly austere mineral cut that marks Corton in its more elegant guise.
