Zuidam Jonge Graanjenever is a young grain jenever from Zuidam Distillers, a traditional family distillery in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. Jenever is the historic Dutch spirit from which gin descends, and Zuidam crafts its version by hand using time-honoured methods.
It is built on a grain mash of roughly equal parts corn, rye and malted barley, which is triple distilled for smoothness. A portion of the grain distillate is then redistilled with botanicals including juniper, liquorice and aniseed to give the spirit its classic jenever character. As a jonge (young) style, it is bottled without cask ageing, keeping it fresh and lively.
The aroma offers juniper, liquorice and a touch of vanilla. The palate is full yet soft, with warm rye-bread notes, juniper and a gentle, almost sweet finish. Enjoy it well chilled in the traditional way, or use it as a characterful base in cocktails.
