From Yangarra Estate's revered High Sands vineyard in McLaren Vale, this single-vineyard Grenache is sourced from Block 31 — a 1.7-hectare parcel of bush vines planted in 1946, sitting at 210 metres elevation on the estate's deepest sandy soils. Farmed biodynamically, these old vines produce tiny yields of extraordinary concentration and perfume.
The 2023 vintage reflects a cooler, wetter growing season, leaning into elegance and savoury tension. Aromas of red cherry, tart raspberry and cranberry swirl with North African spices, musk, orange peel and white pepper. The medium-full palate is intense yet poised, with powdery, nebbiolo-like tannins framing flavours of raspberry, rose petal, pink peppercorn and cold tea. A wine of real dimension that will reward patience in the cellar.
Hand-picked and destemmed with 50% whole berries retained, the fruit was fermented in ceramic egg and small open-top stainless steel vessels with a gentle 30-day maceration. Bottled February 2024.
