Gold Foil Edition is the inaugural bottling in Wild Turkey's Austin Nichols Archives, a limited annual series that revisits the most celebrated releases in the distillery's history under Associate Master Blender Bruce Russell.
The reference point here is the run of Wild Turkey bottlings from the 1980s and 1990s known among collectors as the Cheesy Gold Foil. This tribute is a sixteen year old Kentucky straight bourbon, non-chill filtered, drawn primarily from barrels matured in the distillery's Camp Nelson rickhouses.
It carries the mature oak funk that defines old Wild Turkey, layered with dark fruit, cherry cola, clove and dark honey, then finishes long and peppery with brown sugar and leather. The presentation follows suit, with a canister carrying an autumnal hunting scene that nods to how the brand got its name and a gold foil lining beneath.
