Weingut Prinz is a small Rheingau estate in Hallgarten, started in 1991 by Fred Prinz as a side project that has grown into one of the region's most respected biodynamic addresses. Today Fred and Sabine Prinz farm around 11.5 hectares, with about 90% planted to Riesling.
The Prinz Riesling Trocken 2024 is the estate's entry-level dry Riesling, a VDP.Gutswein blended from estate parcels across Hallgarten. Despite its place at the base of the range, critics consistently highlight its substance and structure for the category.
Grapes are sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards on the diverse soils around Hallgarten, with slate, quartzite, gravel and loess-loam all contributing. The fruit is gently whole-bunch pressed, the must settles naturally for at least 24 hours, and fermentation proceeds slowly over several weeks to preserve the fruit character and mineral signature of the Hallgartener sites.
