Weingut Prinz is a small Rheingau estate in Hallgarten, started in 1991 as a hobby by Fred Prinz, a former sales manager at the Hessian State Winery. Today Fred and Sabine Prinz farm around 11.5 hectares as a family operation, joined the VDP in 2005 and work organically, with biodynamic methods increasingly in the mix. Riesling makes up around 90% of plantings.
Hallgartener Hendelberg is classified as VDP.Erste Lage (First Growth), a steep, south to south-west facing slope that is wind-exposed and enjoys intense sun. The soils are weathered slate, giving rise to a mineral, finessed Riesling of elegance and finesse.
The Hendelberg Riesling Trocken 2020 is dry in style, carrying the estate's signature balance of precision, saltiness and depth. The biodynamically farmed grapes receive gentle, slow whole-bunch pressing at low pressure, followed by natural settling of the must for at least 24 hours and fermentation over several weeks to preserve fruit character and site expression.
