Port Cask Reserve is the fortified wine finished expression from Virginia Distillery Co., the American single malt producer working from 100% malted barley at Lovingston, Virginia.
The whisky spends years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks before being finished in traditional tawny port casks sourced from Portuguese bodegas, alongside port style wine casks sourced closer to home in Virginia. Honeycomb, walnut and gingerbread lead the nose, then the palate opens with a burst of bright lemon and red berries, soft smoke and cocoa.
Rich without being heavy, and one of the distillery's most approachable after dinner pours.
