The Macallan Art is the Flower is a limited edition Speyside single malt created as a tribute to Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the celebrated Glasgow architect, designer and artist. Its name is drawn from Mackintosh's own words on the connection between art, nature and the spirit, and the release takes inspiration from his artwork and writing, including his 1902 stained glass panel The Spirit of the Rose.
The whisky has been matured exclusively in sherry seasoned European oak casks, giving it a deep oak colour and the rich, fruit-led character The Macallan is known for. The nose opens with dried fruits such as raisin, fig and cherry, joined by polished oak, orange, almond and treacle.
On the palate, sweet oak and raisin lead into vanilla, ginger and fresh apple, with a subtle hint of leaf tea. The finish is long, sweet and full. The bottle is presented in a gift box.
