This Benrinnes single malt Scotch whisky comes from the brilliant independent bottlers at Darkness, matured for 14 years before being finished in specially crafted Pedro Ximénez octave casks. These smaller casks pack a punch, maximizing the interaction between whisky and wood, delivering a bold, sherried character that’s full of depth and richness.
Benrinnes Distillery, nestled at the foot of the Ben Rinnes mountain in Speyside, has been producing whisky since 1826 - well, almost. The original distillery was destroyed in a flood just a few years after opening and was rebuilt in 1835. Since then, it has quietly gone about its business, creating a distinctive, meaty spirit, largely behind the scenes. While you don’t often see Benrinnes as a single malt, it’s a key player in some of the world’s most famous blended whiskies, adding its robust and complex character to brands like Johnnie Walker and J&B.
One of the distillery’s standout features is its use of worm tubs - old-school, coiled copper condensers that impart a heavier, meatier texture to the whisky by retaining more sulphur compounds during condensation. This traditional method, rare in modern times, gives Benrinnes its rich, weighty, and slightly savoury profile, perfect for those who love a dram with a bit of backbone.

Nose: A rich medley of raspberry jam, dark fruits, and burnt caramel, with hints of mocha and a subtle meaty undertone (classic Benrinnes!).
