From Tapanappa, the family estate established in 2002 by Brian and Ann Croser, pioneers of the modern Adelaide Hills wine region. The Tiers Vineyard, planted by Brian in 1979, was the first modern vineyard in the Adelaide Hills and remains an emblematic site for Australian Chardonnay.
100% Chardonnay from the original 'old' Tiers plantings within the Piccadilly Valley site, with vines whose clonal origins likely trace back to the first introduction of Chardonnay to Australia in the 19th century. The vineyard sits on podsolised red-brown earths and duplex soils over schists and sandstones. Expect a complex, finely silky wine with extraordinary purity, definition between fruit layers and a tightly wound, mineral-driven palate that unfolds slowly over time, built for cellaring.
Hand-picked, with chilled grapes whole-bunch pressed and cool-fermented. Aged in around 30% new French oak with no malolactic fermentation and no lees stirring, in a refined, fruit-led style.
