Bodegas Ponce was founded in 2005 by Juan Antonio Ponce in Cuenca, in the heart of Spain's Manchuela region, where he has become a champion of the local Bobal grape. Clos Lojen is his calling card, a red drawn from old bush vines on chalky clay soils, made with a low-intervention philosophy that lets the variety and place speak clearly.
The farming is organic and biodynamic, with whole bunches foot-trodden and fermented in small wooden vats. The wine is juicy and fruit-driven, with bright red and dark berry flavours, a lick of spice and a distinctive chalky, textured feel that keeps it fresh and moreish.
Serve lightly chilled with grilled meats, tomato-based pasta, charcuterie or a simple paella. It is an easy, characterful red that rewards relaxed drinking.
