And this is how it came about?

When we was last in Tasmania, we popped into Overeem to work on another project with the team — but this time, we wanted to do something a bit different.

We took a good look at the stout casks, which were getting a lot of attention at the time. They were new for Overeem and seriously tasty. But rather than just release a straight stout cask whisky, we started experimenting — blending stout with port and sherry casks to see what kind of magic we could find.

Turns out, the marriage of stout and sherry really stood out. The balance, the depth, the way the flavours played off each other — it just worked. So we went into the barrel room and got to work, blending a single stout and a single sherry cask in very specific proportions. What came out was incredible — even better at cask strength. We had our recipe, and we knew we had to bottle it.

The only problem? When the team at Overeem blended our original recipe, we discovered we only had 40 bottles. That wasn’t going to cut it — this whisky deserved more.

A little while later, back in New South Wales, we got the call from Jane and Mark. We agreed to scale it up — using the same recipe and tracking down casks that matched the profile of our originals. Richard took on the task, and without knowing how many bottles we’d end up with, we pushed ahead. In the end, we got 200 more.

So here it is: a special Overeem release — stout cask and sherry cask, married and bottled at cask strength, in two small batches. Batch One: just 40 bottles. Batch Two: 200 bottles.
