Champagne Leclerc Briant is one of the historic biodynamic houses of Champagne, based in Épernay since 1872. The Leclerc family was a pioneering force in organic and biodynamic farming in the region, earning certification more than four decades ago, and the estate continues to apply biodynamic principles in both the vineyards and the cellar today.
The Millésime Extra Brut is the house's vintage cuvée, drawn from a careful selection of the year's best parcels. The wine is fermented and aged with a low-intervention philosophy, with extra brut dosage so the year's character speaks unencumbered. Time on lees adds richness and complexity, the result a Champagne that combines pedigree with the energy of biodynamic farming.
The 2018 pours a very pale gold with persistent fine bubbles. Aromas of fresh lemon, white flowers and lemon oil are joined by hints of blackcurrant, toasted almond and buttercup, opening with air to greengage, raspberry and a flicker of liquorice. The palate is delicate and finely textured, with bright lemon, almond and a crisp saline edge running through a long, energetic finish.
