Kumeu River is one of New Zealand's most internationally celebrated wine estates, founded in 1944 in Auckland by Maté Brajkovich with his parents, and today run by his son Michael Brajkovich MW — New Zealand's first Master of Wine — alongside his brothers Milan and Paul and sister Marijana. The winery is best known as the benchmark for age-worthy New Zealand Chardonnay, and its Village tier offers an approachable window into the Brajkovich family's style.
100% Pinot Noir, typically drawn from both the Kumeu estate and the family's Rays Road vineyard in Hawke's Bay (acquired in full in 2017). Expect a bright, cherry-red wine with lifted red fruit aromas, delicate spice and floral notes. Cool, round and fruity on the palate, with a touch of chalky tannin that keeps the finish dry and refreshing — a pure, juicy expression of Pinot Noir for any occasion.
Hand-harvested and fully destemmed before crushing. Indigenous-yeast fermentation with a total cuvaison of around two weeks and twice-daily remontage, then matured for seven months in tank to preserve fresh fruit and aromatic lift.
