Koerner's Adelaide Hills Gamay is a bright, juicy, thoroughly modern expression of the variety from Damon Koerner, sourced from the Deanery Vineyard in Balhannah, planted in 2004 on sandy loam over sandstone and ironstone. It's a small-production wine built for transparency and drinkability.
Fragrant and lifted, with wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petal, crushed herb and a gentle peppery spice. The palate is light to medium-bodied with bright acidity, fine silky tannins and a whisker of earthy, mineral grip - happily served with a slight chill.
Hand-harvested, destemmed with some whole berries retained (no whole bunch), naturally fermented in open-top steel fermenters with hand plunging, then aged in a 2,000L Slavonian oak foudre for around 10 months before resting in stainless. No fining, no filtration. Around 12.5% ABV.
