Weingut Keller is one of Germany's most revered estates, and its move into the famed Roter Hang (red slope) of Nierstein has produced some spectacular dry Rieslings. The Hipping vineyard sits on distinctive red slate and clay soils above the Rhine, and this Grosses Gewachs is the dry grand cru expression of the site.
Pure and crystalline, it combines citrus and orchard fruit with a fine, reductive, flinty edge and a pronounced saline minerality drawn from the red soils. The palate is generous yet tightly focused, with a savoury, mouth-watering finish of real persistence.
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged on its lees, it is a Riesling built for the cellar and rewards several years of patience.
