Le Préau is a named lieu-dit within the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation, bottled separately by Jean-Marie Fourrier. The site's silty, reddish-brown soils are studded with limestone stones, giving a wine with more definition and character than a typical village blend.
Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family's Domaine Fourrier in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1994, having learnt his craft with Henri Jayer and at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon. Fruit is drawn from vines over 30 years old, and the winemaking follows the house philosophy of minimal intervention: careful sorting, native-yeast fermentation, gentle extraction and restrained use of new oak.
In the glass this is a bright, pure expression of Pinot Noir, with fresh cherry and raspberry aromas and a subtle hint of vanilla. The palate is smooth and silky, with well-integrated tannins and a long finish, making it an approachable introduction to the Fourrier style.
