Jean-Luc Jamet established his own domaine in 2013, taking with him some of the finest parcels of the family's Northern Rhone holdings. Working with his son Benoit, he crafts wines of pedigree across Cote-Rotie and the surrounding appellations. L'Enclave is his red Cotes du Rhone, often described as a little Cote-Rotie, made entirely from Syrah grown on the slopes around Bonnivieres and Champrond.
Deep purple in the glass, it is expressive and aromatic, with black cherry and dark berry fruit framed by violet, smoke and a flinty, mineral edge. The palate is plush and generous, carried by tender, fine-grained tannins, with the savoury, peppery character that marks good Northern Rhone Syrah.
Drinking well now, it also has the structure to develop over several years in the cellar. Serve with grilled or roasted lamb, beef, duck, hearty stews and dishes seasoned with black pepper and herbs.
