From Il Marroneto, one of Brunello di Montalcino's most respected estates, founded in 1974 by Giuseppe Mori and run today by his son Alessandro Mori alongside Alessandro's son Iacopo. The vineyard takes its name from a 13th-century stone tower, originally used to dry chestnuts, that still stands on the property just outside the medieval walls of Montalcino. The estate spans 8 hectares of Sangiovese on the north slope of the Montalcino hill, at around 350 metres altitude, on sandy, mineral-rich soils known locally as 'sabbione di mare'.
100% Sangiovese from estate vineyards first planted in 1975, with later additions in 1979 and 1984. The vines are managed in a traditional, minimalist style, with natural grassing and careful pruning to encourage low yields and slow ripening. Expect a wine of great elegance and aromatic complexity, with red and dark cherry, Italian spices, balsamic notes, woodland herbs and gentle floral lift, leading into a long, savoury, mineral-driven palate with classic Montalcino structure and superb ageing potential.
Hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and aged for the appellation-mandated minimum of two years in large Slavonian oak botti, then a further period in bottle before release.
