Il Macchione's Rosso di Montepulciano DOC is the everyday expression of the Abram brothers' Tuscan estate — a younger, fresher counterpart to their Vino Nobile. It's crafted predominantly from Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) grown on the sun-drenched clay and tufa hills of Montepulciano and farmed organically without herbicides.
Intense ruby red in the glass, the 2023 shows a fragrant nose of wild strawberry, blueberry and red cherry, opening onto notes of ripe plum and sweet spice with gentle hints of tobacco and cinnamon that emerge with air. The palate is fresh, fragrant and well balanced, with soft tannins and a mouth-watering, cherry-led finish.
Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel with gentle pump-overs, then aged roughly 8 months partly in steel and partly in larger wooden vessels to preserve vibrancy. A classic Tuscan food wine — perfect with pasta al pomodoro, ragù, grilled meats and aged pecorino.
