From Henschke, the Eden Valley estate that has been making wine in South Australia since 1868. Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke runs the winery alongside his viticulturist wife Prue, with their three Eden Valley vineyards and one Adelaide Hills vineyard farmed in line with biodynamic principles. Henschke's flagship single-vineyard Shiraz wines, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, are among the most celebrated in Australia.
Hill of Grace is one of Australia's most revered wines, made from a single eight-hectare vineyard first planted in 1860 in the historic village of Parrot Hill, near the Gnadenberg Lutheran Church. The oldest vines, known as the 'Grandfathers', date to the 1860s and are among the oldest Shiraz vines in the world. The wine is dense, perfumed and layered, with blueberry, bramble, violet, sandalwood, leather and spice on a plush palate carried by silky, long-lasting tannins.
Fruit is hand-picked from low-yielding vines and fermented in traditional open-top fermenters before being matured in a mix of French and American oak hogsheads. Bottle ageing in the Henschke cellar follows before release.
