Giuseppe Mascarello Barbera d'Alba 'Scudetto' 2022 750ml

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio's Barbera d'Alba 'Scudetto' is a benchmark expression of Piedmont's most quaffable red grape, made by one of the historic estates of Castiglione Falletto. The 'Scudetto' name and shield motif on the label nod to the family's enduring affection for Juventus, whose Italian championship (the scudetto) the cuvée celebrates. Fruit is sourced from estate vineyards in the Monforte d'Alba district, with the wine matured in medium-sized oak before bottling.

The bouquet leads with bright black cherry, fresh violet and red plum, layered with hints of black pepper, sweet baking spice and a flicker of candied orange peel. The palate is smooth and juicy, carrying ripe dark fruit on a frame of vibrant acidity and gentle, enveloping tannins. Oak influence is restrained, allowing the variety's fresh, food-friendly character to lead.

Pair with classic Piedmontese fare, agnolotti del plin, braised beef, mushroom risotto, hard alpine cheeses, or simply a charcuterie board. A versatile, expressive Barbera that punches well above its station.
