Génot-Boulanger is a family-run Burgundy domaine based in Meursault, with holdings spread across both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Les Saumonts is a Mercurey premier cru on the southern flank of the village, where limestone and marl soils and a favourable south-easterly exposure produce Pinot Noir of finesse and structure at a far more approachable price than the Côte de Nuits.
The 2022 is bright, focused and quietly serious. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry are lifted by violet, gentle spice and a fine thread of forest floor. The palate is supple and pure, with crunchy red-fruited acidity, fine-grained tannins and a long, savoury close that speaks clearly of place.
An elegant Pinot for roast duck, mushroom dishes, charcuterie or a fireside cheese plate.
