François Millet spent some thirty-five years as winemaker at the celebrated Domaine Comte de Vogüé before establishing his own small domaine with his son, working from a cellar in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny. Production is tiny and the approach gentle, with fruit handled carefully and an emphasis on transparency rather than power. This Gevrey-Chambertin La Croix des Champs is drawn from deeper soils within the appellation.
The wine is built around direct, vibrant red-berry fruit, balancing juicy freshness with a mouth-filling roundness. It is a pure, approachable expression of Gevrey Pinot Noir, with supple texture and an unforced, fruit-driven character that reflects the restrained winemaking.
Serve at cool cellar temperature with roast poultry, lamb, charcuterie or soft, earthy cheeses. A short time in the glass or a brief decant helps it open and show its charm.
