Fontodi 'Flaccianello della Pieve' Colli Toscana Centrale IGT 2021 750ml

Flaccianello della Pieve is the flagship wine of Fontodi, one of Chianti Classico's benchmark estates, owned by the Manetti family since 1968. The estate sits in the heart of the Conca d'Oro - a natural amphitheatre-shaped valley south of Panzano - with around 90 hectares of organically farmed vineyards.

100% Sangiovese, drawn from a selection of the best parcels on top of a hill at around 480 metres, planted on the classic 'galestro' schistous clay soils that deliver the variety's finest expression. Expect a deep ruby wine with a complex bouquet of ripe dark cherry, blackberry, violet, mineral and gentle spice, leading into a rich, dense palate with silky tannins, racy acidity and a long, flavourful finish.

After hand-harvest and careful sorting, fermentation and maceration take place over around 2 weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with twice-daily cap punch-downs. Malolactic in barrel, followed by around 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques, then further time in larger wood before bottling. 2021 is regarded as a great vintage for Tuscan red.
