Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin Italian Fig and Laurel is a flavoured expression of the much-loved Gunpowder Gin, hand-distilled in small batches at The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim. This release adds a Mediterranean twist to the signature Gunpowder character, created in collaboration with Italian mixologist Bruno Vanzan.
The gin is slowly distilled by hand in copper pot stills, drawing on the core Gunpowder botanicals of slow-dried Chinese gunpowder tea, juniper, meadowsweet and a selection of oriental botanicals. To these are added Italian Viola fig for dark-fruit richness and natural sweetness, along with Italian laurel and Tuscan juniper. The aroma is juicy and fruit-forward, with fig jam, orange peel and creamy tropical fruit. The palate leads with ripe plum, peach, apricot and fig, layered with green tea, eucalyptus and a touch of anise, before a herbal, gently sweet finish of allspice, clove, mint and piney juniper.
Aromatic and approachable, this gin is delicious in a simple gin and tonic garnished with fresh fig or orange, and it brings a fruity, herbal complexity to a range of cocktails.
