Domaine du Pélican Arbois Chardonnay 2024 750ml
Domaine du Pélican was founded by Guillaume d'Angerville, whose family estate in Volnay is one of the most respected addresses in Burgundy. He came to the Jura after tasting a Chardonnay from Arbois that convinced him the region deserved the same attention, and the estate has since become one of the most sought after names in a corner of France full of small, cult producers.
The vineyards around Arbois are farmed biodynamically and the winemaking is deliberately understated, with a Burgundian sensibility applied to Jura terroir. Chardonnay has been grown here for centuries, and on these marl and limestone soils it takes on a character quite distinct from anything over the border in the Côte d'Or.
Expect a white of clarity and drive. Lemon, green apple and white pear are joined by hazelnut, white flowers and a stony, saline minerality, with a fine chalky texture and a long, dry finish. Serve it with poultry, seafood or the Comté that comes from the same part of the world.
