Baron de L is the prestige cuvée of Domaine de Ladoucette, the most established estate in Pouilly-Fumé. The wine is produced only in years considered worthy of release, drawn from old-vine parcels of Sauvignon Blanc on the silex and Kimmeridgian flint soils that give Pouilly its characteristic mineral signature.
The estate, headquartered at the Château du Nozet, has been making Loire Sauvignon for more than half a century. For Baron de L, fruit is hand-harvested and gently pressed, fermented and aged with great care to draw out depth without compromising the clarity that defines fine Pouilly-Fumé. Long bottle ageing in the cellar before release allows the wine to integrate before reaching the market.
The 2017 shows great precision on the nose, with green apple, lime zest, orange peel, gooseberry and a smoky flint lift that nods to the Pouilly soils. The palate is deep and full bodied with bright, zesty acidity, silky texture and a savoury mineral backbone running through a long, refined finish. Drinking well now and built to age for the better part of a decade in a good cellar.
