Bruno Colin makes a single village Chassagne-Montrachet, assembled from parcels across the commune, and it has become one of the more dependable benchmarks for what the appellation should taste like at this level. Chassagne whites are firmer and more citrus-driven than Meursault, with the limestone never far from the surface, and this bottling makes no attempt to soften that.
Grapefruit, lemon pith and white blossom open the nose, with a fine nutty note and a touch of gunflint behind. The palate is precise and well weighted, with crisp orchard fruit, a chalky grip through the middle and bright acidity carrying a clean, mineral finish.
The domaine dates from 2003, when Michel Colin-Deleger's estate was split between his sons Bruno and Philippe. Bruno kept the old family cellars in the centre of Chassagne-Montrachet and farms around eight hectares, working mostly within the commune with a handful of regional wines alongside.
