Les Saint-Jacques is a named site in Rully, the northernmost of the Côte Chalonnaise villages and historically the region's centre for white wine. Chardonnay here ripens a little later than on the Côte de Beaune and keeps a bright acid line, giving wines that are fresh and finely drawn rather than opulent.
The nose is clean and citrus-led, with lemon, green apple and white flowers over a faint hint of hazelnut. The palate is lively and nicely textured, with a chalky mineral edge, good concentration for the appellation and a dry, refreshing finish.
Pierre de Benoist has managed this estate for over two decades on behalf of his aunt and uncle, Pamela and Aubert de Villaine. The domaine has farmed organically since 1986, long before it became common in the region, and its reputation rests on treating the Côte Chalonnaise with the same seriousness usually reserved for the Côte d'Or.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
