Decades brings together winemaker Steve Flamsteed, best known for his long tenure at Giant Steps, and brewer Brad Rogers, friends since their Roseworthy student days in 1991. Their vineyard sits in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, planted in 1990 on black, cracking clay over limestone that is full of ancient shells. Low rainfall and a long, cool season give the fruit concentration while keeping acidity bright.
2025 was a cool vintage that allowed flavours to build slowly and evenly. The Chardonnay was hand-picked and sorted, then whole bunches were pressed straight to large, seasoned French oak barrels for a wild ferment. Around half the barrels went through spontaneous malolactic fermentation, adding a touch of softness to the wine's taut frame.
In the glass it is citrus-driven and medium-bodied, with real mineral clarity and fruit purity. Fine, persistent acidity gives length without weight, and the overall impression is elegant and focused, with enough presence to suit seafood, poultry or simply time in the cellar.
