Cougar Bourbon is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey bottled exclusively for the Australian market, where it has built a loyal following as an everyday sipping and mixing bourbon. The brand traces its roots to 1865 and draws on traditional American sour mash production methods, using locally grown corn and grains alongside pure aquifer water.
The bourbon shows a medium amber colour with a sweet, nutty character on the nose, lifted by aromas of vanilla and gentle rye spice. The palate is smooth and approachable, with rich oak, vanilla, corn sweetness and a distinct rye-driven spiciness, leading into a long finish with a subtle hint of liquorice.
Cougar is produced using a sour mash recipe and matured in charred American oak barrels, which contribute the whiskey's vanilla, oak and spice character. It works equally well neat, over ice, or in classic bourbon mixers and cocktails.
