Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey is a Kentucky straight bourbon inspired by an 1830s family recipe from Augustus Bulleit. The brand was revived in 1987 by his great-great-grandson, Tom Bulleit, and is now part of the Diageo portfolio. Production sits across Kentucky and Indiana, with the dedicated Bulleit Distilling Company opening in Shelbyville, Kentucky in 2017.
Bulleit is defined by its high-rye character. Expect a spicy nose of rye bread, cinnamon, vanilla and a hint of oak, leading into a bold, dry palate where rye spice plays against sweet corn, vanilla and gentle oak. The finish is long, warming and distinctively peppery, with smooth oak char carrying the spice through.
The mash bill is built around an unusually high proportion of rye for a bourbon, alongside corn and a touch of malted barley. The whiskey is aged for at least six years in new charred American white oak barrels, and its bold, spicy profile makes it a natural choice neat, over ice, or as a backbone for classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Manhattan or Whiskey Sour.
