Clos de Gamot is an iconic Cahors estate owned and run by the Jouffreau family, whose winemaking tradition on this site dates back to 1610. The property is considered the humble benchmark of Malbec in the region, famously saved by Guillaume Jouffreau who in 1883–1884 grafted the last Malbec shoots from Clos de Gamot onto phylloxera-resistant rootstock — effectively rescuing the grape in Cahors. The Le Gamotin cuvée is a younger-vine, more approachable bottling drawn from a selected plot within the domaine.
100% Malbec from the younger-vine parcels. Expect a vibrant, fresh expression of Cahors Malbec — violet-led aromatics over pure, fresh dark fruit, with approachable crunchy tannins and a long, persistent finish. A supple, fruit-forward introduction to Jouffreau family Malbec.
The vineyard sits on the second and third terraces of the Lot river, on a mix of pebbles, gravel, quartz and alluvium. Yields are limited and the vines are farmed without herbicides. Vinification follows traditional methods with careful oak ageing to frame the fruit.
