Clos de Gamot Cahors 2022 750ml

Clos de Gamot is the flagship 15-hectare vineyard of the Jouffreau family in Cahors, south-west France — a property that has been in continuous family hands since 1610. Part of the vineyard remains planted to Malbec vines over 120 years old, planted just after the phylloxera crisis in 1885, with very low yields of 10–15 hl/ha. The domaine is famously conservative and traditional, never having abandoned Malbec even when many in the region defaulted.

100% Malbec (locally called Auxerrois) on a classic Cahors terroir of clay-limestone with pebbles, flint and bands of red clay. Expect a Malbec of character and fruit intensity, balanced by structure and depth — violets and dark plum, blackcurrant, dark cherry and a graphite-edged minerality, with powerful yet elegant tannins and the signature saltiness and fruit purity that defines classic age-worthy Cahors.

Parcels are vinified separately in small-volume tanks, with roughly 21-day macerations guided by tasting. Oak ageing is used judiciously to shape the wine while preserving fruit and terroir expression.
