Château Doisy-Védrines Sauternes 2017 375ml
Château Doisy-Védrines Sauternes 2017 375ml
Chateau Doisy-Vedrines was ranked a Second Growth in the 1855 classification and has belonged to the Casteja family since 1851, with Olivier Casteja in charge today. The thirty five hectare estate sits on an elevated plateau in the commune of Barsac, though unusually for a Barsac property it labels its wine under the Sauternes appellation.
The vineyard is planted predominantly to Semillon, with Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and a tiny amount of Muscadelle filling out the blend. Doisy-Vedrines has a reputation as one of the richest and most full bodied wines in Barsac, and the house manages to combine that weight with genuine poise.
In the glass it is deep gold, with apricot, candied orange, quince, honey, toasted almond and a lick of vanilla and ginger spice. The palate is unctuous and long, yet the acidity underneath keeps it lifted rather than cloying. Serve it well chilled with blue cheese, foie gras, a fruit tart, or simply on its own after dinner.
