Green Chartreuse is one of the most distinctive liqueurs in the world, made by the Carthusian monks of the French Alps to a secret recipe that dates back to 1605. Only two monks at any one time know the full formula, which combines 130 plants, herbs and flowers macerated and distilled at the order's facility near Voiron.
It pours a brilliant, naturally derived green and offers an intensely aromatic nose of mountain herbs, fresh mint and anise. The palate is layered and complex, with notes of liquorice, peppermint, fennel, spearmint, basil and candied citrus building into a long, warming, spicy finish driven by the high strength.
Sweet at first sip then powerfully herbaceous through the middle, Green Chartreuse is brilliant served chilled neat or over ice, and is the backbone of classic cocktails including the Last Word, the Bijou and the Champs-Élysées. A genuinely one of a kind liqueur and a cornerstone of any well-stocked back bar.
