Canadian Club 1858 is the flagship blended Canadian whisky from Canadian Club, the brand founded by Hiram Walker in 1858 in Walkerville, Ontario. The whisky takes its name from the year Walker began producing his now famous spirit, and the brand is today part of the Beam Suntory portfolio. Canadian Club is exported to more than 150 countries and is recognised as one of the defining names in Canadian whisky.
The whisky pours a bright gold colour and opens with a fresh, soft nose of almond, light cereal and a hint of peppery spice. The palate is smooth and zesty, with rich oak, sweet vanilla and gentle sweetness, before a clean, dry finish with subtle oak spice carries through.
Canadian Club 1858 is built from a grain bill of corn, rye, rye malt and barley malt. Unusually, the whisky is blended before maturation rather than after, allowing the grains to marry through the ageing process in used American white oak bourbon barrels, and is aged longer than the three years required by Canadian law.
