Brookvale Union Ginger Beer is made by 4 Pines Brewing Company, the Northern Beaches brewer founded in Manly in 2008. The brand takes its name from Brookvale, the Sydney suburb where the 4 Pines production brewery sits, and has grown into one of the most recognised alcoholic ginger beers in the country. This is the stronger release in the range, offering the same ginger beer the brand built its reputation on with a bit more grunt behind it.
Expect a genuine ginger kick rather than a token one. The aroma is fresh and spicy with warm root ginger and a touch of citrus, while the palate is full flavoured and lightly sweet, carrying a clean ginger heat through the middle before finishing dry and crisp. It reads as spicy yet mild, smooth yet sharp, and the added strength gives it a fuller, rounder body without turning harsh or syrupy.
Brewed and packaged in Australia, it is served well chilled straight from the can or poured over ice with a wedge of lime or lemon to lift the citrus edge. It also works as a base for a Dark and Stormy style build, or alongside spicy food, barbecue and seafood.
