Bloody Hill Villages is a Yarra Valley project led by Rivar Ferguson-Mayer, son of cult winemaker Timo Mayer. The 'Villages' name reflects the multi-site approach: fruit is sourced from selected vineyards across the Yarra Valley's subregions, including parcels around Coldstream, Healesville and Panton Hill, as well as plantings on the Mayer family's home block. The wines aim for elegance, drinkability and a clear sense of place.
A dry, food-friendly Yarra Valley Pinot Gris, typically from Healesville fruit. The wine leans towards an Alsatian sensibility, with pear, white peach, honeysuckle and a touch of ginger over a textured, gently phenolic palate that stays fresh and clean to the finish.
All Bloody Hill Villages wines are single-vineyard, hand-picked, spontaneously fermented dry, aged for around six months in seasoned hogshead barrels and bottled unfiltered. The reds are also unfined, in keeping with the minimal-intervention philosophy that runs through the Mayer family's winemaking.
