Bicknell FC is the boutique Yarra Valley project of Dave Bicknell, longtime chief winemaker at Oakridge, and viticulturist Nicky Harris, who started the label in 2011. This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from roughly 50 year old vines on the Lance Vineyard at St Andrews, a low yielding site that gives a classic, claret style expression of Yarra Cabernet.
It is a medium bodied, bright Cabernet with a freshness and lift more often associated with Pinot Noir. Blackcurrant and red cherry are joined by lavender and a hint of dried herbs, and the palate is crunchy and fruit driven, with fine tannins, lively acidity and a subtle savoury, truffle-like note underneath.
The hand picked fruit was destemmed to whole berries and fermented naturally, with twice daily pump overs, before being pressed to older barriques with no new oak. Malolactic fermentation was completed in barrel, and the wine was racked twice before being blended and bottled in early 2026.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
