Aberlour 13 Year Old Double Cask Matured is a Speyside single malt from the celebrated Aberlour distillery, renowned for its sweet, fruity and beautifully balanced whiskies. This release has been matured for a minimum of thirteen years, drawing its character from two complementary cask types.
As the name suggests, the whisky is matured in both American oak ex-bourbon casks and ex-Oloroso sherry oak casks. The American oak lends vanilla and toffee, while the Oloroso sherry contributes spice and a deeper richness. The nose shows hot chocolate, red apple and white pepper over toasted oak and warm spice. On the palate, red apple, sultana and butterscotch give way to baking spices of nutmeg and cinnamon, before creamy vanilla settles things down. The finish is slightly drying, with baking chocolate and a dusting of spice.
An elegant and approachable Speyside dram, this Aberlour rewards slow sipping, neat or with a few drops of water. It is a fine choice for both newcomers to single malt and seasoned enthusiasts who enjoy the classic interplay of bourbon and sherry cask maturation.
