Yeringberg has long held a reputation for finding the magic sweet spot in Yarra Valley Chardonnay - balancing the richness of traditional styles with the tension of the modern wave. In the cool 2023 vintage, Sandra de Pury has leaned into the season’s delicacy to craft a wine of immense finesse and concentration.
The winemaking here is precise and deliberate. The fruit was fully crushed and destemmed before pressing, then settled and racked to barrel. A mix of wild and inoculated ferments, combined with 30% malolactic fermentation and lees stirring (bâtonnage) over 11 months in oak (30% new), has built a wine of texture and complexity without sacrificing its vibrant core.
Initially restrained, it opens with aromas of just-ripe nectarine, white peach and citrus blossom, evolving into savoury notes of oyster shell, honeysuckle and roasted almond. The palate is shaped by a vibrant energy, where a savoury line of grapefruit and pithy lemon zest frames richer notes of nectarine and lightly toasted brioche. It is pure, concentrated, and effortlessly long - a Chardonnay that will drink beautifully over the next 6–8 years.
