Talenti is a respected family estate in Montalcino, founded by the legendary winemaker Pierluigi Talenti in 1981 and now run by his grandson Riccardo. The vineyards lie to the south of the hilltop town, in the warmer Orcia valley, planted on clay and marl soils that give the wines their generous, polished character.
Made entirely from Sangiovese and matured for around two and a half years in a combination of Slavonian oak casks and barriques, this is a classic, well-balanced Brunello. Expect aromas of ripe red cherry and plum, dried rose and violet, with notes of sweet spice, leather and earth. The palate is full yet smooth, with elegant, ripe tannins and a long, savoury finish.
A wonderfully food-friendly Brunello that drinks well now and will continue to develop, it suits braised and roast meats, game, and aged Italian cheeses.
