Part of Penfolds' pioneering Chinese collection, CWT 521 showcases the winemaking team's work with vineyards in China, bringing the house's signature style to fruit grown in some of the country's most promising wine regions. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Marselan, the latter an aromatic red variety that has found a natural home in China.
Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the cool, high-altitude vineyards of Shangri-La in Yunnan brings structure and cassis-like depth, while Marselan from Ningxia adds vibrant colour, spice and supple fruit. Together they create a wine of generous flavour, with aromas of dark berries, plum and blackcurrant lifted by savoury notes of herbs, spice and fine oak.
The palate is rich and layered, showing ripe dark fruit, a thread of fresh acidity and finely textured tannins that carry through a long, savoury finish. Presented in a gift box, it makes a striking choice for a special occasion and pairs wonderfully with roast and grilled meats.
