Ngeringa sits in the Adelaide Hills, where Erinn and Janet Klein have farmed biodynamically since planting their first vines in 2001. The land has been certified biodynamic since 1993, when it was the herb farm behind the Jurlique skincare business founded by Erinn's parents, and today it is a working property of some 75 hectares, with vines alongside olives, orchards, vegetables, cattle, sheep and chickens.
The Summit vineyard is the centrepiece of the farm, two hectares planted at Mount Barker in 2001 and 2002 at the unusually high density of 6,600 vines per hectare. It sits around 360 metres up with rows oriented east to west to soften the harshest sun, and only the finest parcels from here are selected for the Single Vineyard range.
The Chardonnay from this site is a cool climate expression through and through, built on grapefruit and white peach with a fine, chalky line of acidity and a savoury, textural finish. It is a restrained style in which the fruit and the site do the talking rather than the oak. Serve it with roast chicken, seafood, pork or a soft cheese.
