Millstone 100 Rye Whisky is a Dutch single rye made by the Zuidam family distillery in the Netherlands. The name reflects the way it is built: made from one hundred per cent rye, matured fully in American oak and aged for around one hundred months, the result of a patient, handmade approach to a grain more commonly associated with North America.
The nose is fragrant and lifted, with fresh rye, citrus and orange blossom over honey, vanilla and warm baking spices such as black pepper and cardamom. The palate is rich and lightly oily, reading like gingerbread, with maple, allspice and ginger backed by a peppery warmth, while honey, peach and a touch of cinnamon bring sweetness. It closes long and spicy, with lingering vanilla and oak.
Assertive yet polished, this is an expressive rye that rewards slow sipping and shows just how characterful European grain whisky can be. It is equally at home neat, over ice or as the backbone of a spirit-forward cocktail.
