A Dolcetto d'Alba from Luigi Pira, the small family estate in Serralunga d'Alba in the heart of Barolo country. Established in the early 1950s, the Pira family long sold grapes and bulk wine to local negociants; only in 1993 did brothers Gianpaolo and Romolo Pira begin producing and bottling their own labels. The estate runs to around 12 hectares with holdings in three of Serralunga's most prestigious Barolo crus - Margheria, Marenca and Rionda - and makes around 50–55,000 bottles a year. Integrated, minimal-intervention farming with no insecticides.
100% Dolcetto, grown on vines in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba. Expect a rich, concentrated, well-balanced Dolcetto that reflects the Serralunga character through and through - deep purple in the glass, with aromas of dark cherry, plum, violet and a subtle almond note, leading into a rounded, juicy palate with soft, ripe tannins and a clean, fresh finish.
Hand-harvested from low-yielding vines. Vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel and aged briefly in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity and freshness before bottling.
